Closed Tuesdays. Dinner on Monday 20 May 2024. Quite busy tonight, mostly Italians. One bottle of water, one bottle of house white at €14, one Patate dell'Oste (potatoes, peppers and rosemary) at €6, one Caponata dell'Oste at €9, one Pesce Spada alla Marinara (swordfish) at €14 and one Spigola all'Acqua di Mare (sea bass) at €16 cost €67. Once again, a little grey and white cat begged me for pieces of my swordfish and (surprisingly) won. Five times! Dinner on Wednesday 15 May 2024. Classic loud conversation two tables away from us. Daughter plus parents and either brother or boyfriend. Daughter says (loudly) ... "When someone you don't know knocks on your door now, you don't answer it. No wonder there were so many more serial killers in the olden days." A phrase so wonderful I immediately got out pen and paper and wrote it down verbatim. One bottle of water, one excellent (but different) bottle of house white at €14, two Insalata Mista at €4 each, one huge plate of Spaghetti alla Carbonara at €12 and one Penne alla Norma at €12 cost €54. Lunch on Wednesday 15 May 2024. The owners remembered that we were coming on 15 May 2024 and remembered our names! One bottle of water, one wonderful bottle of house white at €14, one Peperoni Grigliate (grilled peppers) at €6, one Caprese at €9, one Pesce Spada alla Marinara (swordfish) at €14, one Spigola all'Acqua di Mare (sea bass) at €16 and two espressos cost €67. Great service and fantastic food. Dinner on Sunday 1 October 2023 Quite full tonight but our usual outside table was ready. Water, a bottle of the house white (Alcamo Bianco) at €10, two contorni of potatoes with onions and rosemary @ €6 and caponata @ €8, one main of Spigola (sea bass) @ €16 and two delicious free cannolis cost €48! I spoke to Fabio and his wife, Adriana, several times and promised to see them on Wednesday 15 May next year. I hugged them both and then they both hugged my wife! Dinner on Thursday 28 September 2023 Our usual table had been reserved for us at this busy little restaurant right next to the old bridge leading to Ortigia. A bottle of water, a bottle of the house white (Grillo) at €10, starters of Peperoni Grigliati at €6 and Caponato at €8 and mains of Pesce Spada alla Marinara at €14 and Caserecce allo Ionio at €14 cost €60. Lunch on Wednesday 27 September 2023 We were remembered from last time by the gracious owner, Fabio. A bottle of water, a bottle of the house white (Alcamo Bianco, which smelt of fresh pears) at €10 (when the wine list starts at €15!), one main of Insalatona dell'Oste or big salad with tuna and sweetcorn at €12 and one main of Spigola all'Acqua or sea bass at €16 cost €46. Free starter plate at the beginning, free lemon sorbets at the end, great service and wonderful food throughout! Dinner on Sunday 14 May 2023 I had Patate dell'Oste (potatoes with onions and rosemary) at €6 and Pesce Spada alla Marinara at €14. My wife had Caponata dell' Oste at €8 and Spigola all'Acqua di Mare (sea bass with potatoes in garlic, tomatoes and parsley) at €16. Once again, we had a bottle of the house white and a bottle of water. We were given free appetisers as soon as we ordered and free lemon sorbets at the end of the meal. The total bill was only €57! The value-for-money is incredible so we tipped generously and assured Fabio that we would return in September.
